While access to our buildings continues to be restricted, we have opened our sanctuary and Parish House for worship and for groups to use. For worship indoors, we are requiring that everyone wear masks, sanitize their hands upon entry, and practice physical distancing in the space. For Parish House group use, please contact the group leader for COVID protocols. Any programs of the church, particularly when unvaccinated individuals and children will be present, require face mask use. There continues to be no public bathroom access, only one bathroom available during group reservations and worship, and no kitchen use. We are asking groups for an additional $25 cleaning fee for the extra cleaning we are doing to keep our buildings safe.
Our Food Pantry has shifted away from providing regular access to produce and stables, given that mainland access is easier for many individuals. It still stands ready to assist folks who need food - contact [email protected] for more information.
We are monitoring CDC protocols for congregational settings, as well as practices and guidelines from the Center for Congregational Singing and the Wisconsin Council of Churches, to stay up to date to keep our population healthy and to minimize exposure.
If you are interested in reserving one of our spaces for use, or if you have questions about protocols, please contact the church office at [email protected] or at 207.846.6987.

Dear friends,
Melissa and CUMC's Administrative Council has made the difficult decision to restrict access to the church's buildings - particularly the Parish House - starting Wednesday, March 25th. We're doing this so that we can maintain a safe environment for the Food Pantry. You can still donate to the Food Pantry by dropping items off in the coolers that will be on the porch. You can still contact Jen Corson with any food pantry needs at [email protected]. If you want any notecards to send to friends and family, contact Melissa at [email protected] and we'll leave some out on the parsonage porch for you.
The church continues to be in ministry with the island (our friends and neighbors both near and far) during this time. Please visit the church's website (www.chebeagueumc.org) for all of the opportunities we are offering for connection during these days. There will be more offerings in the days to come, so please stay tuned!

Dear friends,
We are working hard to make sure we remain connected and supported during this time. We're following the guidelines from the CDC and our state governor around gathering size and social distancing to protect the most vulnerable in our community. This means no in-person worship or meetings at this time. We don't know how long this will be for. At this time, our buildings are still open; we ask that people sanitize their hands upon entry. If you use surfaces like the table or kitchen counter in the Parish House, please wipe them down with soap and water when you are done. Use your elbows to open the door when you leave.
I've put together a short survey to see what might be helpful in terms of gathering together right now. Take a moment to fill it out. Your answers will help me determine some new and creative rhythms for us to live in to over the next few weeks. Perhaps we will get back to our spiritual roots on the island with Wesleyan class meetings online!
We also have cards available in the Parish House entryway by the sanitizing stations, thanks to Donna Damon and the Museum! Take a few cards and write some notes to friends and neighbors near and far.
We've partnered with the Island Council to form a network of community support, which includes bolstering our food pantry. You can read the letter that was sent out to households on the island here. We are working to coordinate volunteers to check in on neighbors, pick up groceries and supplies from the mainland, and provide support. You can find the details in the letter.
Our food pantry is in need of supplies and donations. Donations can be dropped off in the Parish House. The current list can be found below.
Thank you all for your patience with us and with each other during this time. I know that this is a scary and difficult time for many. I am confident that God is with each of us and that the strength we receive from each other and from God will help us get through this time.
Peace,
Melissa
