For Pastor Melissa's response to the recent Special General Conference held in St. Louis on Feb 23rd - 26th, please read her pastoral letter to the Chebeague UMC community.
On May 26th 2019, we also voted as a congregation to become a Reconciling Congregation and join the Reconciling Ministries Network - an organization consisting of United Methodist congregations and individuals working for the full inclusion of LGBTQIA individuals and their families into the life of the church. Information about what that means is available in our FAQ or at www.rmnetwork.org.
We voted our welcoming statement as follows:
Welcome to this sacred space; our doors are always open. Join us as we at the Chebeague United Methodist Church embrace God’s gift of diversity and affirm people of every age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic condition, family structure, and physical or mental ability in the full participation of this congregation. No matter who you are or where you are on your journey, you are loved and a child of God. Our passion for a wide welcome of all God's children moves us to continue to educate ourselves and others about issues in the wider church and world that seek to divide us, so that we might truly be a congregation with open minds, open hearts, and open doors.
